In the 1990s, half of the world’s CDs were made for AOL sign-up discs.

Sadly, 99.9 percent of those were install discs from AOL. If you lived in the United States in the 1990s, you remember these. They started as 3.5-inch floppies and transitioned into CDs. And I'm not exaggerating.

 By 2004, AOL was still sending out a lot of CDs, but the massive churn of users was already becoming a problem in a broadband era. Finally, in 2006, AOL announced it was ceasing the CD program.
